News UK launches new motor awards

In a first for a scheme of this kind, says News UK, the awards will be judged by consumers as well as automotive journalists across the four news outlets. The awards will look to celebrate innovation across all motoring segments from Luxury to LCV’s, City cars to SUV’s and will be sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres.

The Motor Awards are now open for voting and will run until September 14. Consumers will be able to vote for free across 10 categories including – SUV/Crossover of the Year, Adventure Car of the Year and Green Car of the Year. The winners of each category will be announced on Wednesday October 10 at a gala awards ceremony held at The News Building in London Bridge.

The awards will be publicised across The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and talkSPORT throughout the competition period. Shortlisted brands in the consumer voted for categories will be featured across editorial coverage during the voting season. Following the awards ceremony, the winners will be featured in The Sunday Times Magazine and The Sun on Sunday on October 14.

Motoring journalists who will provide their expertise for the judged categories include Rob Gill and Nick Francis from The Sun and Nick Rufford and Will Dron from The Sunday Times.

According to Rob Walsh, Motors Category Director, News UK: “Over the last few years we have seen some incredible innovations come out of the UK automotive industry and we wanted to rightfully celebrate and recognise these achievements. This is the first time News UK have launched a nationwide set of motoring awards which will be backed by some of the biggest media brands in the country. We know that we have knowledgeable audiences who are therefore well placed to vote for their favourites alongside experts in the motoring industry. We are looking forward to an exciting campaign of voting and the hugely anticipated final results in October.”

Andy Mathias, Marketing Communications Manager, Bridgestone North Europe region says: “We’re delighted to be working with News UK on the Motor Awards, as the reach and scale of their media brands across print, digital and radio channels align perfectly with the premium range of tyres Bridgestone offers the UK market.

“The Motor Awards is an exciting campaign to be involved with from launch – Bridgestone are passionate about product excellence and this enables us to speak to our customers around a conversation highlighting motoring best in class.”
