Newsquest to launch new newspaper in Oxfordshire

Newsquest Media Group yesterday announced the imminent launch of a new, free weekly newspaper in Oxfordshire, The Oxfordshire Star.

Launching on Thursday June 2nd, The Oxfordshire Star will have a print readership of approximately 22,000 and will be available as a pick up from a host of sites across the county, says Newsquest.

Chris Moore, Managing Director of Oxfordshire & Wiltshire, said the move had come about as a result of feedback from advertisers and staff in recent months: “We believe there is a good opportunity for us to extend and develop our print audience via the launch of a new free newspaper that complements our existing portfolio of paid for newspapers, magazines and digital platforms. The Oxfordshire Star will further strengthen our reach with the growing population in the county and provide an additional platform for local advertisers.”

Regional Editor Gary Lawrence, said the Star will be a bright, busy and colourful community newspaper: “We are blessed with wonderful communities and a vibrant social scene and the Oxfordshire Star will reflect that. It will feature news, sport and leisure, as well as property, motors and jobs. I’m sure readers will enjoy the latest addition to our Oxfordshire portfolio.”

The newspaper will not have a dedicated website, but online will be supported by Newsquest’s existing portfolio of Oxfordshire websites which attract an audience of over 60,000 visitors per day, says the company.
