Sun-Times Media live in DTI Cloud

Digital Technology International, (DTI), has announced that the Sun-Times Media Group, based in Chicago, is now live with the first of three phases implementing DTI ContentPublisher in DTI Cloud, DTI's SaaS offering.

The project covers more than 50 publications and 60 websites. This marks the industry’s largest editorial and content management solution to be hosted in a cloud computing environment, says the company.

Phase one includes five daily and 11 weekly newspapers in Sun-Times Media's west region of Chicago. The completion of this phase establishes the foundation for the redesign of each of the company’s 60 websites.

"The scope of the project is a major industry milestone, and the speed of implementation was remarkable. The contract was signed in the Spring of this year and we had our first group of newspapers live by September. This is one of the smoothest system transitions we've ever experienced," said Fred Lebolt, senior vice president, News Operations, Sun-Times Media.

DTI ContentPublisher powers Sun-Times Media's Web-first content strategy allowing them to share resources and multimedia content throughout their entire group. The project facilitates better coordination of their Web and print processes through a single content management system with the flexibility to access their content and media assets from anywhere, at any time.

"Sun-Times Media has reshaped its business and is moving forward with cloud computing which is enabling this change," stated Dan Paulus, vice president of sales Americas, DTI. "The company wanted to transform their newsrooms to their Sun-Times Universal Media Desk platform, and this project is successfully accomplishing that for them."

Sun-Times Media selected DTI Cloud for its secure, highly redundant data centre, abundant bandwidth and the highest level of network availability in the industry.  “It is the industry’s fastest, safest publishing cloud,” said Paulus. DTI Cloud also ensures that Sun-Times Media will always enjoy using the latest, most productive, version of the DTI ContentPublisher software.

All three phases of the project will be completed in early 2011.

Sun-Times Media serves more than 300 communities across the region and includes the Chicago Sun-Times and Suntimes.com; seven suburban daily newspapers, including the Beacon-News (Aurora, Ill.), Courier-News (Elgin, Ill.), Herald-News (Joliet, Ill.), Lake County News-Sun (Waukegan, Ill.), Post-Tribune (Merrillville, Ind.) and the SouthtownStar (Tinley Park, Ill.); 39 weekly newspapers published by the Pioneer Press and 11 weekly Sun newspapers, as well as websites for those newspapers, centerstagechicago.com, RogerEbert.com, SearchChicago.com and YourSeason.com.
