The Story of the First World War in The Sun Front Pages

The Sun has this week launched a 48-page special edition newspaper commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, with a series of front pages showing how it might have reported the events had it been around in 1914-1918.

The front pages use some of the language of the day and aim to give an impression of the public mood during the war, says The Sun. A more detailed history, background and timeline to the war is provided opposite each front page, acting as a free education resource for teachers, students and anyone with an interest in our history.

The story of the First World War in The Sun front pages is intended as a tribute to the memory of the millions of ordinary people civilians and military, friend and foe who were killed or injured between 4 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.

The commemorative issue includes a reader introduction explaining the rationale behind the headlines and an insight into public mood at the time. The special edition newspaper is available to view and download for free here: http://goo.gl/flDJlV.
