Tindle acquires nine local newspapers

Nine local newspapers in Dorset and Somerset have a new owner in the Tindle Newspapers Group which publishes more than 200 titles around the country.

As reported by the Newspaper Society: Tindle Newspapers have acquired the View From Weymouth, View From Portland, View From Dorchester, View From Bridport, View From Beaminster and View From Lyme Regis from Lyme Media & Events in Lyme Regis.

The Lyme Media group of Weekender titles in Crewkerne, Chard and Ilminster, where Tindle have no existing newspapers, are also included.

The View From titles will be published by Devon, Dorset and Somerset Series of Newspapers Ltd, a subsidiary of Tindle Newspapers Limited.

Philip Evans, founder of the View From titles, has been appointed managing director, and will continue to run the operation from the Lyme Regis offices together with Tindle Axminster-based newspapers in East Devon.

All full-time staff at the two centres in Axminster and Lyme Regis will be retained with no job losses, the publisher said.

The combined group will, have a total of 15 titles in West Dorset, East Devon and South Somerset with a combined weekly distribution of  46,000 copies, making it a significant player in West Country publishing, the publisher added.
