WIRED and The Space collaborate to award £100,000 to emerging digital artists

WIRED UK and digital arts platform The Space have announced The Space/ WIRED Creative Fellows Programme, a new category within the WIRED Innovation Fellowships, with a total of £100,000 being awarded to emerging digital artists.

The initiative was unveiled at this year’s flagship event, WIRED2014, and the three winning applications will be announced in the Spring of 2015, with the pieces being launched for the first time at WIRED 2015.

Entrants from anywhere in the world who have inspiration for a game-changing work of art are invited to enter. No formal training or qualifications are required, and the successful Creative Fellows will each receive £30,000 plus an additional budget for training and mentorship as they develop their projects.

Ruth Mackenzie CBE, Launch CEO of The Space commented, “We’re looking for the Eisenstein, Picasso and Kate Bush of tomorrow, with this exciting search for great pieces of digital art. Equally as exciting as seeing the final pieces will be watching the work in progress, something which will be documented by both The Space and WIRED.”

“The winning work could come from entrants of any background – code, digital, tech, the creative industries, arts, culture, or none of the above. We want to hear why the proposed artistic work will make a significant impact on the world, what’s particularly innovative about it, and why they deserve to be one of the Creative Fellows,” added David Rowan, Editor of WIRED UK.

The judges for the prize will include Ruth Mackenzie and David Rowan, with a further judge to be revealed later in the year. Applications are open from the 16th October 2014, with entries closing 1st March 2015. Winners will be revealed at the beginning of April 2015, in order they have time to complete their artworks in time for WIRED 2015, taking place in London in October.
