Alcatel-Lucent joins MMA’s premium tier

During last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) announced that Alcatel-Lucent has joined the MMA’s Premium Membership tier.

Launched in November 2009, MMA’s Premium Membership is an exclusive tier for a limited number of companies that have substantial influence and leadership in the mobile marketing industry.

Alcatel Lucent will join Microsoft as Premium Members. The Premium Membership tier brings together ‘market making’ companies with the scale, scope and resources to affect genuine change in the marketplace to the benefit of all MMA members. These companies can provide leadership by accelerating innovation, removing critical industry blockers and expanding industry awareness of the benefits of mobile advertising. Premier Members commit themselves to long term concerted and collaborative efforts through the MMA to build the industry.

“We are thrilled to have Alcatel-Lucent join as a Premium Member as the company’s leadership and global strength is beneficial to the entire ecosystem,” said Federico Pisani Massamormile, interim CEO of the MMA. “They have an outstanding ability to provide end-to-end communications solutions that can help to drive the mobile marketing industry to bring new services and capabilities to market. Our members will significantly benefit from the MMA Premium Membership program, broadening our ability to support everyone worldwide.”

“Alcatel-Lucent’s commitment to this level of sponsorship with the MMA demonstrates our intent to play a significant part in the success of the mobile media industry,” said Thomas Labarthe, VP of Mobile Advertising, Alcatel-Lucent. “This strategic collaboration with the MMA will enable us to jointly drive the development of mobile technologies, standards, and business models that can improve the value of the entire mobile marketing and advertising business.”

Simultaneously the MMA announced that Paul Berney, MMA’s managing director in EMEA, is leading the global responsibility for the Premium Member Program. Berney will act as the main point of contact for the Premium Members and will ensure their engagement with the MMA yields the expected benefits for all parties.
