Belfast Telegraph launches iPad and iPhone Apps

The Belfast Telegraph is to launch a daily edition of the newspaper available on iPad and iPhone by the end of April.

The daily edition will be available for iPad and iPhone users for £5.99 and £2.99 per month respectively and is being launched jointly with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

The move follows an eight per cent growth in readership of the Belfast Telegraph year-on-year according to local brand consumption survey TGI NI, the publisher said.

The paper’s website, which is fifteen years old, now consistently has over one million readers per month every month.

Belfast Telegraph digital publisher Sam McIlveen said while the printed newspaper continues to hold the greatest share of the Northern Ireland market access to its content through iPad and iPhone is the logical next step.

He added: “By 2013, mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common web access device worldwide according to a Gartner 2010 survey. By providing our award-winning news coverage and high quality editorial in a made-to-measure online package, we aim to grow our readership dramatically.”

“Mobility and access to information are two key pre-requisites for successful modern living and we have geared up our online designs and presence to be accessible and easy to read on peoples’ phones and tablets.

“The Belfast Telegraph has always been to the fore in the fast-changing media landscape and this development is a clear demonstration of our commitment to our readers and advertisers to provide the best quality coverage to as wide a readership as possible.”
