Finalists chosen for Metro’s Fashion Fringe 2011

Three finalists have been chosen for Fashion Fringe 2011, a competition to find and nurture undiscovered British fashion designers, in association with official media partner Metro.

The finalists were picked on 24 May by a high-profile judging panel including Metro’s Style Editor Bel Jacobs, Roland Mouret, Claudia Schiffer, Anne Pitcher, Managing Director of Selfridges and Professor Roy Peach from the London College of Fashion.

The finalists are Fyodor Golan, Heidi Leung and Nabil El-Nayal. They will now spend the summer in an intensive mentoring programme and working on their Fashion Fringe Collections which will be showcased at London Fashion Week in September. One designer will then be selected as the overall winner and will receive a two-year development package to set up and sustain their business.

Bel Jacobs, Style Editor at Metro, said: “It's wonderful to be part of the judging panel for this year's Fashion Fringe. I've watched the project develop and grow, ever since publishing a fashion shoot styled by its first winners Basso & Brooke on Metro's style pages in 2004. Helping nurture young design talent is one of the most important things a fashion editor can do and it's certainly something I've tried to accomplish through Metro's style pages. To be able to do so through Fashion Fringe, one of the most effective projects around today, is a great privilege.”

Sophie Robinson, Creative Planning Director, Metro: “We’re really pleased to be supporting such a great industry initiative. Fashion is incredibly important to our readers so this is an ideal opportunity to further establish ourselves within the sector. We look forward continuing our relationship with the fashion industry and wish all the finalists the best of luck!”
