Future’s Tap! offers fresh approach to magazines on the iPad

Future, the special-interest media group, today reveals a monthly iPad edition of Tap! The iPhone and iPad magazine – built from the ground up using the iPad, exclusively for the iPad.

Just like the print and digital Zinio editions, the new bespoke interactive app helps people find the best apps and games on the App Store, adding a rich, intuitive and easy-to-navigate reading experience that makes the most of the iPad’s revolutionary features, say the publishers.

Game reviews feature high-quality videos that bring you closer to the action, while the Kit section boasts swipeable 360° photography. And downloading a recommended app couldn’t be simpler: just tap the Buy Now link to be taken straight to it in the App Store.

Text can be resized, selected, bookmarked and shared with social media, and even read aloud by the iPad. Flick through the images in the easy to follow How to section and the steps change automatically and, if you need more help getting started with your iPad, a series of friendly video guides will turn you into an expert in no time.

Each monthly Tap! app edition will appear in the App Store the same day the print and Zinio editions go on sale, beginning 29th September.

Christopher Phin, Editor of Tap! says: "We wanted to create a magazine that took advantage of all the iPad's amazing features and the new Tap! iPad edition does just that."

Claiming to be the authority on iPhone and iPad apps, games and kit, Tap! had to have a best-in-show app. Which is why Future has built its own, wholly owned in-house platform for creating – and reading – iPad magazines.

Using this exciting new platform, app editions can actually be created on the iPad itself – or running in Apple’s iPad simulator on a Mac – meaning the magazine can be put together using the very tablet readers use to read, watch and interact with Future’s fresh, authoritative content.

Tap! is the first magazine to use this platform, which will power many of Future’s forthcoming iPad publications.

Charlotte Morgan, Publisher of Future’s Technology portfolio, says: “Having recently won Consumer Digital Publisher of the Year at the AOP Awards, we knew Future’s next creation had to be truly special. The success of Tap!, which launched less than a year ago, gave us a clear opportunity to take the brand and content, and develop something absolutely core to the iPad medium.

“The Tap! app, built using our in-house platform, offers a unique and exciting user experience, and represents a significant extension to the Tap! brand.”

Tap! The iPhone and iPad magazine’s iPad edition launches on the Apple Store on 29th September (pending approval). It’s priced at £2.99 for a single issue, with subscription tiers ranging from £7.99 to £23.99.
