Greenslade launches campaign

Media Guardian pundit Roy Greenslade has launched a campaign to highlight why local newspapers are vital for democracy.

'Why local papers count' will highlight instances of journalism in local media that hold power to account, provide essential information, or illustrate the importance of public service campaigning.

The campaign was launched on Tuesday by Professor Greenslade on his Media Guardian blog.

He cites the Cambs Times and the Wisbech Standard’s ‘Let's make Fenland safer’ road safety campaign which reduced the number of road injury accidents by more than 20 per cent in five months.
