Hearst launches 21 titles on Apple’s Newsstand

Hearst Magazines UK, the Hearst Corporation’s principal UK business, today announces that 21 of its iPad titles - 18 monthly and 3 weekly - are now available on Newsstand, a key feature of iOS 5.

Newsstand allows consumers to find digital newspaper and magazine products in one dedicated place on the App Store, and organise them in one easy-to-organise bookshelf. Users who are subscribed to one of Hearst Magazines UK's leading titles, including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Men’s Health, Harper’s Bazaar, Red, Good Housekeeping and Reveal will receive new issues automatically on their iPad. Latest issues and most recent cover art will simply appear in Newsstand.

Hearst Magazines UK, which publishes 23 magazines and 22 digital assets, launched earlier this month following Hearst Corporation’s international transaction with Lagardère SCA. The deal united two of the UK’s biggest publishing houses, National Magazine Company and Hachette Filipacchi UK, rebranding the business Hearst Magazines UK.

It now includes monthly titles such as ELLE, ELLE Decoration, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar and Red; Luxury titles such as Country Living, Good Housekeeping, House Beautiful, Coast, Prima, Prima Baby, Psychologies and You & Your Wedding; and titles from the Lifestyle group such as Cosmopolitan, Company and Zest from the Young Women’s Group.

Hearst Magazines UK joint venture, NatMag-Rodale is also supporting Newsstand with its flagship titles, Men’s Health and Runner’s World.

From its stable of Weekly publications, Hearst Magazines UK is making Reveal, Real People and Best available in Newsstand as well.

Globally, Hearst Magazines has seen more than 300,000 paid subscriptions and single issue sales for its digital editions across multiple platforms, including the App Store. This is a tenfold increase versus September last year, says the company.

Arnaud de Puyfontaine (pictured), Chief Executive, Hearst Magazines UK, and Executive Vice President, Hearst Magazines International says, “Hearst Magazines UK outperformed all of its competitors in the recent ABC release of the first digital certificates so being part of this exciting launch of Newsstand perfectly positions us to extend our lead in digital.”
