inews.co.uk launches

Johnston Press yesterday unveiled inews.co.uk, a new website that is designed to complement the layout and culture of the i newspaper.

A concise and quality round-up of the key need-to-know stories across Britain, says Johnston Press, the launch follows the official deal completion of Johnston Press’ purchase of i last Sunday. The site is fully responsive across devices and offers up-to-the-minute news and information, designed to give users the best possible experience on whatever device they choose.

Readers will be able to choose news through The News Matrix, which shows the day’s headlines at a glance, and the site also categorises them in sections including Essentials, Explainers and Distractions, for readers wanting a quirky story to break up their day. The homepage will also display an Essential Five section, giving readers the five most important headlines of the moment.

Felicity Morse, who was announced as digital news editor last week, will lead the site with a remit to drive Johnston Press’ strategy to effectively combine print and digital across its portfolio, offering readers relevant and useful content in the format that best suits them. This approach highlights the editorial-first ethos that runs through each of the publisher’s news brands both in print and online, says the company.

Oly Duff, editor at i, commented: “We’re taking the values that have made i such a success in print to shape inews.co.uk. We take real pride in concise, quality journalism, as well as intelligent analysis, convenience for our readers, being free from political party bias, and having a conversation with our readers, and the team has done a fantastic job in bringing that to life with the website.”

Jeff Moriarty, chief digital and product officer at Johnston Press, commented: “We believe that with so much content and so many choices, readers will appreciate a mobile-optimised digital product that provides a concise, quality and curated view of what’s happening across Britain. Like the I newspaper, inews.co.uk will provide a mix of content that informs and entertains, sourced from the I newsroom and from our 900 journalists across the UK in a modern, mobile format.”
