Metro’s motor festival EcoVelocity meets Ashes to Ashes

Eight people squeezed into the iconic 1983 red Audi Quattro from the TV show ‘Ashes to Ashes’ to demonstrate the importance of ‘green’ motoring ahead of Metro’s motor festival EcoVelocity – the vehicle needs eight passengers to be as green as today’s low carbon cars.

EcoVelocity is a “unique live outdoor low carbon motor festival”, presented by Metro and sponsored by EDF, for all the family in London on 8-11 September at Battersea Power Station. The first-of its kind event will showcase the best economical low and ultra-low emission vehicles currently available and offer test drive opportunities.

Event founder and organiser Giles Brown said: “This stunt was a great way of launching the EcoVelocity show while remembering the importance of what we are about – educating people about eco cars and reducing the carbon footprint.”

“EcoVelocity will be the most important and definitely not to be missed motoring event of the year, showcasing the best real-world cars for real-world motorists at a single location.”

Motor professionals will present the latest technology and motorists facing soaring costs and environmental pressure can find advice from a wide range of experts. Family activities at the festival will include:

• The SEAT young drivers programme

• The Honda “my first license” introduction to motorcycling for young children

• The What Car? Catwalk parade presenting the best eco cars in each class

• The Lean Mean Green Super Car Paddock

• Get On – free motorcycling test ride

Linda Grant, Managing Director of Metro, said: “There has been a gap in the market for an event aimed at city dwellers that showcases low carbon vehicles. We know Metro readers are car owners with urban specific needs and so we wanted to bring to them a show that would engage, entertain and inform them about the wealth of new vehicle options now coming into the market.”

Kenny Campbell, Editor of Metro, said: “These are tumultuous times for motoring, with manufacturers and motorists alike having to deal with issues such as pollution, congestion and soaring fuel costs. The public's perceptions of new-tech motoring are changing –with EcoVelocity, we aim to make those perceptions change more quickly.”

Event partners include What Car?, TfL, The Mayor of London, Source London, Get On and Green Fleet.

Early bird tickets available now until 23 June at www.ecovelocity.co.uk.
