New App for World’s Longest Published Business Newspaper

Lloyd’s List, the world’s longest-published daily business newspaper and the flagship title of the global maritime industry, is again combining its rich history with cutting-edge technology by launching the first-ever App for shipping news.

The new Lloyd’s List App will enable subscribers to access current news and market data anytime and anywhere directly onto their iPads and iPhones.

“The launch of the new Lloyd’s List App provides our subscribers with an easy way to access current news, sector specific articles and market data while they are on the go at no extra cost,” explained Lloyd’s List editor Richard Meade. “Once downloaded, the news is cached so that users can read it at their leisure without the need for an internet connection.”

The new App is the latest in a series of technological developments designed to ensure that Lloyd’s List remains the world’s leading provider of shipping industry news, information, analysis and data. The past year has also seen the re-launch of www.lloydslist.com and the launch of Lloyd’s List Intelligence – a groundbreaking new fully-integrated intelligence product that combines market news as it happens with exclusive industry data and insight.

“Lloyd’s List offers the most comprehensive and reliable news, information and intelligence service in the industry,” continued Mr Meade. “The new App will allow users to tap into our market-leading analysis and access graphs and exclusive data-led insight that suits their needs and timescale.”

Lloyd’s List’s website provides a single point of access for all Lloyd’s List content and enables users to benefit from a 24-hour news cycle, global and regional editorial teams, advanced search options, extensive news archives and exclusive insight drawn from Lloyd’s List’s research and analysis division, Lloyd’s List Intelligence.

“Lloyd’s List Intelligence combines the expertise of a global staff of maritime analysts and award-winning journalists with the world’s most extensive system of shore-based and satellite intelligence gathering so that we can turn news, data and information of unparalleled quality into market intelligence which directly supports our customers’ business decisions,” explained Adam Smallman, Head of Content, Lloyd’s List Group.

Originally known as The List, the publication was founded in 1734 by coffee shop proprietor Edward Lloyd, who provided the free shipping information service to his clients hoping they would in turn invest in insurance from Lloyd’s coffee house. After Lloyd’s death in 1743, the coffee house remained a meeting place for merchants, ship-owners and underwriters and thus became the centre of insurance in London. Edward Lloyd’s information sheet became Lloyd’s List and it was in those early days simply a register of shipping movements.

Spanning four centuries, this globally-renowned and highly respected daily newspaper now provides maritime news, analysis, data and information, including updates on ship management, operations, finance, shipbuilding, insurance & law, and relevant news from global markets.

“Back in the beginning, 277 years ago in a coffee shop in the City of London, the writing was literally on the wall, for shipowners and investors and all to see in the most immediate way possible,” said Smallman. “Recent technological advances – the latest being our new App - have meant that Lloyd’s List is returning to that immediacy with stronger, more defined newsgathering ethos, more analysis and unrivalled online delivery.”

Lloyd’s List subscribers can simply use their www.lloydslist.com login details to access the new App. The App is free to download and has been formatted in keeping with mobile devices while retaining the familiar feel of Lloyd’s List.

Those not currently subscribing to Lloyd’s List can go to www.lloydslist.com to sign up for a free trial of the both the website and the new App or see the new app at the iTunes store.
