Newsstand launches Android app

Newsstand, a leading online magazine retailer has launched “The Pocket Newsstand” mobile app, allowing Android users to browse and purchase over 3,000 print magazines by the copy.

Thousands of current magazines are now easily accessible to everyone with an android mobile ‘phone, with the introduction of The Pocket Newsstand. The free application allows users to browse the current front covers of UK and overseas magazines, as well as purchase them either by the copy or on subscription for same day despatch.

Claiming to be the first of its kind, the application also provides magazine information such as onsale dates and editorial overviews. The simple purchasing process has been streamlined to encourage “impulse buys”, with orders placed before 3pm being despatched by Newsstand the same day via first class post. The user can see the current cover and contents of each magazine and can also choose the number of issues required, from a single copy up to one year’s subscription.

Over the last 12 months, Newsstand has moved away from solely offering subscriptions by introducing current single copy sales via the website. The Pocket Newsstand is an extension to this philosophy of increasing awareness of the UK’s 3,000 + consumer magazine titles as well as ensuring they can be readily available for purchase at all times and from all postcodes.

“We feel the printed magazine still has a huge part to play, but it’s very important that consumers can access the full range of magazines easily, which is often not possible at the moment”, said a Newsstand spokesperson.

“The mobile app means you can get hold of the magazines you want, however difficult they may be to find at retail. It should make things easy for consumers to browse and buy, as well as the publishers looking to get their product available in every single postcode.”

The Pocket Newsstand also opens up direct communications with the user; with new issue notifications, local stockists and contents search functionality all adding value in the near future.
