Reach announces new editors for regional titles

Reach plc has announced a new editor structure for its Yorkshire and Humberside titles.

Reach announces new editors for regional titles

As reported by Ian Murray on the Society of Editors website:

As part of the company’s restructure, Helen Dalby, currently editor-in-chief of titles in the North East, was to become audience and content director for a new North East and Yorkshire region. Neil Hodgkinson, editor-in-chief for Yorkshire and the Humber, will become Marketplace publisher for titles across the North East, Yorkshire and local titles in Scotland.

Now editors for the titles in the region — HullLive, GrimsbyLive, YorkshireLive and LeedsLive — have been confirmed.

Jenna Thompson will take on the role of Senior Editor for Yorkshire and Humber. Jenna has overseen the transformation to HullLive as digital editor.

It was recently named website of the year at the Regional Press Awards. In her new role, Jenna will continue to work closely with the HullLive and GrimsbyLive newsrooms as well as supporting the YorkshireLive team, who produce the LeedsLive and YorkshireLive websites, the latter of which recently became Yorkshire’s best-read local news website since its expansion to cover the whole county.

Jamie Macaskill is appointed as Editor for HullLive and GrimsbyLive, overseeing audience and content delivery for the two digital brands and leading both newsrooms operationally.

An announcement to staff said: “Jamie’s time at Grimsby has seen the transformation into the GrimsbyLive brand, and the site’s audience skyrocket to 10m page views a month. His experience as a newsroom leader and strong connections within the wide Humber region put him in a great place to succeed in this expanded role.”

Wayne Ankers becomes Editor for YorkshireLive.

An announcement to staff said: “Wayne has played a key role in establishing and leading this new digital powerhouse brand since March as head of news for Yorkshire, and has huge respect and authority within the wider region. Wayne will lead the teams in Yorkshire and work closely with Jenna in driving both audience and loyalty, building the brand and establishing best practice as this superb new site matures.”

Helen Dalby, audience and content director for Reach in Yorkshire and the North East, said: “I’m delighted that we have appointed Jenna, Wayne and Jamie to our senior editorial leadership team in Yorkshire.

“All three have great passion for the region and a deep understanding of its audience.

“They will do a brilliant job of leading our talented and committed newsroom teams and growing digital brands in Yorkshire, Hull and Grimsby and I’m looking forward to working closely with them.”
