Reach’s regional expansion continues

Reach plc continues its regional expansion with the launch of BedfordshireLive, PeterboroughLive and a recruitment drive in the North East.

Reach’s regional expansion continues
Wayne Ankers: “This team will be able to investigate, explore and expose the issues at the heart of our communities.”

Launching yesterday, the new BedfordshireLive site includes news stories, features and what’s on from across the county. The BedfordshireLive team is made up of digital content editor Simon Murfitt and three reporters: Ian Johnston, Josh Bolton, and Oliver Price.

PeterboroughLive has also launched as a digital brand within CambridgeshireLive, giving Cambridge a full countywide service for the first time. The new digital brand will have its own dedicated reporter Dan Haygarth.

David Bartlett, audience and content director London and the South East said: “Local news is in demand, the service we are providing is more vital than ever before. The expansion of our newsrooms across the South East is testament to the hard work of our journalists, who put the readers at the heart of every decision made.”

In the North, YorkshireLive is launching a new public awareness team to make sure the county’s untold stories are being served to its readers.

The new team has a brief, says Reach, to hold those in authority to account as well as to dig deep into the communities to find out what matters to them. They will also provide live court and council coverage and make sure that stories behind high profile cases and issues are told.

The public awareness team is headed by former BBC data journalist Victoria Prest. Existing YorkshireLive journalists Kristian Johnson and Stephanie Finnegan join as investigations reporter and court reporter. Former BBC online journalist Guy Bell joins as a second court reporter and freelance data journalist Sam Brooke completes the team as insights reporter.

YorkshireLive editor Wayne Ankers said: “I am really excited about this team getting started. It is brimming with talent and they will help us build on the success we have had in our first nine months. We are already the most read site in Yorkshire and we are proud to deliver the content the audience wants. This team will be able to investigate, explore and expose the issues at the heart of our communities and help the people of Yorkshire fight for what they believe they deserve.”
