TWO NIGHTS OF SUN AT THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE

Royal Opera House 2009/10 Season begins with two special Paul Hamlyn First Nights for new audiences, supported by The Helen Hamlyn Trust in association with The Sun.

Following the success of the Paul Hamlyn First night in September 2008, the Royal Opera House now offers two performances at the start of its 2009/10 Season. One opera and one ballet will be performed specially for new audience members at the Paul Hamlyn First Nights, generously supported by The Helen Hamlyn Trust, and in association with The Sun newspaper.
Bizet’s Carmen will be performed on Saturday 3 October and Kenneth MacMillan’s ballet Mayerling on Wednesday 7 October. Both performances are for people who perhaps may not have thought that the Royal Opera House was for them.
Sun readers will be invited to apply for Paul Hamlyn First Night tickets priced between £7.50 and £30 for Carmen and £7.50 and £20 for Mayerling. A ballot will take place and successful readers will be able to purchase up to four tickets each on either performance.  Details on how to register for tickets will be published in The Sun later in the summer. This is part of a wider initiative to open up the work of the Royal Opera House to new audiences.
Tony Hall, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, says: “Last year’s Paul Hamlyn First Night was an extraordinary experience…”
Gordon Smart, Editor of the Sun's Bizarre column, comments: "…so whether it's tenors or tutus that float your boat, there's a great night's entertainment to be had for as little as £7.50."
Alongside the Paul Hamlyn First Night performance, the Deloitte Ignite three day festival will also welcome new audiences into the Royal Opera House from Friday 4 - Sunday 6 September.
Time Out will curate the festival, in collaboration with Deloitte and the Royal Opera House.
