Marie Claire launches iPhone app

Marie Claire, IPC Southbank’s flagship women’s glossy, has launched its first iPhone app, Marie Claire Beauty Genius, which, last week, Apple awarded App of the Week.

The launch coincides with www.marieclaire.co.uk generating record unique users and the appointment of a new digital and online editor, say the publishers.

Partnering with digital agency Outside Line, Marie Claire has developed the paid-for app featuring more than 60 minutes of exclusive bite-sized how-to videos, presented by top make-up artists and stylists, including renowned celebrity make-up artist Jackie Tyson, who has worked with the likes of Sienna Miller, Lily Allen, Katy Perry and Yasmin Le Bon.

As well as getting the hottest hair and make-up looks straight from the catwalk, users can learn how to recreate Cheryl Cole’s va-va-voom waves or Kate Bosworth’s perfect red pout with Jackie’s exclusive collection of Celebrity Looks.

Richard Johnstone, Marie Claire publishing director, says: “These are exciting times for Marie Claire and our new Beauty Genius iPhone app is just the beginning of a series of exciting digital developments.”

Ant Cauchi, MD at Outside Line adds: “We are really excited to be working with one of the biggest names in fashion and beauty publishing, alongside one of the UK’s biggest celebrity make-up artists, to make such a rich and engaging app. No handbag is now complete without an iPhone and with Beauty Genius, users can create all the celebrity looks they desire, wherever they are.”

The Marie Claire Beauty Genius app launches as the brand announces the appointment of Helen Russell as digital and online editor. Helen joins from BSkyB, as channel editor, and has previously worked for the BBC, Bauer and the National Magazine Company.

Helen joins www.marieclaire.co.uk as the site is attracting record numbers, pulling in 1.1million unique users and 17 million page impressions (Source: Omniture, October 2010). The unique user figure represents an annual increase of 91%, says IPC.

The Marie Claire Beauty Genius iPhone app is available to download from the iTunes App Store for £1.19. Beauty Genius is coming soon for iPad.
