Metro is official media partner for ATP tennis event

Metro, the official media partner of the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is supporting the week-long tennis tournament with extensive in-paper and online promotions as well as exclusive editorial content and a live experiential presence at the tournament itself.

Metro activity has been running since April and builds this week, culminating during the tournament itself (20-27th November), in which the top 8 male tennis players in the world compete against each other at The O2 in London.

As part of the editorial coverage this week, Metro Sports Editor David Gurney interviewed French champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Sports section on Friday, with questions sent in from readers online via Metro.co.uk, Facebook and Twitter.

There was also an editorial supplement about the tournament published with Metro on 17th November, and a dedicated section on the Metro.co.uk sports channel to keep people up to date with the tournament news.

For tennis fans at the event itself Metro has created a bespoke stand space in the “Fan Zone” where visitors can play Metro Urban Tennis, a typically quirky Metro game inspired by miniature golf. Each player has three attempts to get the highest possible score and can also see how their performance measures up to those of tennis legends such as Pat Cash and Greg Rusedski, who will be visiting the stand during the week.

Alison Sugden, Head of Special Projects, Metro, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this fantastic tournament with an exciting line-up of activity on all our platforms. We’re particularly proud of our Fan Zone stand which will achieve great stand-out at the event and provide visitors with an injection of Metro fun in-between matches.”

“It’s been great to work with the ATP on such a mutually beneficial partnership and we are confident this campaign will engage Metro’s sport-loving audience as excitement about the competition builds.”

Chris Kermode, Managing Director, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals said: “The ATP’s partnership with Metro as official media partner of the 2011 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals has been a great success. The partnership has been executed on a number of different platforms throughout the year, helping to boost ticket sales as well as building awareness and anticipation for what should be another thrilling season-ending event at The O2.”

Visitors to the tournament can also enter a prize draw to win a VIP experience to see John McEnroe take on Ivan Lendl during The AEGON Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall, taking place in December.
