NS to Launch Major Research Project: Loving Local

The Newspaper Society is to launch a major research project conducted by Crowd DNA looking at the importance of community in modern day life and how media channels fit into this.

Called Loving Local, the research will be presented to advertisers, media agencies and publishers across the UK in a roadshow over the next month.

The research will be made available on a specially-designed microsite.

The London launch will take place on 16 June and will be followed by a series of dates at cities in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Confirmed Loving Local roadshow dates are as follows:

• Manchester (20 June)

• Leeds (21 June)

• Edinburgh (22 June)

• Belfast (24 June)

• Bristol (27 June)

• Wolverhampton (29 June)

• Milton Keynes (8 July)

The project will build on work from the NS the wanted ads and Local Matters series looking at themes such as how the economic downturn has affected the importance of community, attitudes to volunteering and getting involved with local groups or societies, and how media channels relate to this.

It will also look at the impact of emerging channels and social media upon communities.

Fieldwork for the project was conducted by research agency Crowd DNA in March and April.
