Vietnam Media Partnership expanded

Vietnamese media managers are attending two cutting-edge training courses this week on how to run successful newsrooms and media businesses.

This is part of a new partnership between the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

The partnership provides Vietnamese media with the latest trends from the international media industry to support the development of media in the country.

"In recent years, VJA has made a major effort to increase cooperation with international organisations and other countries through co-organising courses with the aim to increase the professional skills of Vietnamese journalists," said Ta Ngoc Tan, Vice President of the VJA and Director of its training centre. "In the framework of the partnership with WAN-IFRA, we focus on training senior managers from Vietnamese media houses through offering them effective editorial and business strategies."

“My impression is that the top level management of Vietnamese newspapers have a fantastic willingness to learn about new cross-media and multi-media sales and management strategies," said Theo Blanco, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the Swedish Upsala Nya Tidning, one of the two international trainers in Hanoi this week.

"They want to learn the latest strategies, improve those and apply them to their market immediately. If this creativity continues, there is no doubt that the Vietnamese newspaper industry has a sustainable and profitable future,” he said.

The Vietnam Media Partnership is part of a strategic partnership between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and WAN-IFRA to advance media development worldwide.

The partnership allows WAN-IFRA to broaden its media development activities in Vietnam by helping media leaders build audience trust and loyalty through establishing editorial values and integrity to inform public debate, offer a wider diversity of perspectives and options and create financially independent and sustainable media operations.
