HuffPost has announced the appointment of Jess Brammar as editor-in-chief of HuffPost UK to oversee the team of editors and staff writers in London and beyond.

HuffPost appoints Jess Brammar
Jess Brammar: “Now more than ever, newsrooms need to produce stories that speak directly to our readers' lives and hold power to account.”

Jess, who joined HuffPost from Newsnight two years ago, has overseen some of HuffPost’s most impactful original journalism, including the exposé of alleged fraud and abuse at the SPAC Nation church, and the series on the real-life consequences of austerity, says HuffPost.

HuffPost also announced the departure of Jimmy Leach who came in to help strategise around audience and revenue diversification to set HuffPost UK up for a stable financial future.

"Jess is an extremely talented editor who understands the importance of impactful, agenda-setting journalism and I’m thrilled that she’ll be leading the charge in her new role as editor-in-chief," said Louise Roug, Executive Editor, International. “In the UK and elsewhere, we want to do the kind of journalism that changes laws and lives, and I look forward to seeing what Jess and the team will do.”

Last year, HuffPost UK were finalists for two of the most prestigious awards in journalism – the Society of Editors' Press Awards for "News Website of the Year" and the Press Gazette's British Journalism Awards for "News Provider of the Year” – and won the Drum Awards for Best Site For News-Led Journalism.

In 2019, HuffPost UK unveiled the HuffPost Centre for Journalism at Birmingham City University which will help train the next generation of journalists.

“I’m so excited to lead the HuffPost UK newsroom, a team that has proven itself to be one of the most dynamic in our industry, doing journalism that is required reading if you want to understand Britain today,” said Jess Brammar, editor-in-chief of HuffPost UK. “Now more than ever, newsrooms need to produce stories that speak directly to our readers' lives and hold power to account. I look forward to supporting our team to produce even more great work."

Jess joined HuffPost two years ago from Newsnight where, most recently, she was the acting editor. At Newsnight, Jess was at the heart of the flagship BBC programme’s coverage of two UK general elections, the victory of Donald Trump, and the Brexit referendum – while also taking responsibility for growing the programme’s online audience.

Jess starts her role immediately and will report to Executive Editor of International, Louise Roug.
