The Sunday Post celebrates 100 years

National newspaper title The Sunday Post celebrates its centenary on Saturday 4th October 2014. To mark this milestone, the title will publish a free Souvenir Special on Sunday 5th October.

The 96-page centenary magazine tells the extraordinary history of the newspaper and features news, campaigns and fun from the last 100 years, says publishers DC Thomson. It will include iconic front pages and pictures, fascinating stories from The Sunday Post’s archives and heart-warming tales from every decade.

Classic comic strips from Oor Wullie and The Broons will also appear, alongside a reprint of the first ever ‘Fun Section’, and a page dedicated to the comic strips’ guest stars, from Sir Alex Ferguson and Andy Murray to Alex Salmond and Gordon Brown. Throughout the centenary special Maw Broon will give her inimitable take on each decade and provide insight into The Broons family, sharing a few family secrets.

The Sunday Post Editor-In-Chief Donald Martin said, “We are very proud to celebrate 100 years of The Sunday Post. The paper’s place in Scottish society and the affection felt for it is unique, so we’re delighted to share this momentous occasion with our readers.

“Our special souvenir edition includes the paper’s take on everything from the millennium to Churchill and the moon landings, Maggie Broon’s wedding to Oor Wullie’s brother - and everything in between. The supplement is a wonderful walk down memory lane and really is 96 pages you won’t want to miss.”

The centenary Souvenir Special will be free with The Sunday Post on 5th October 2014.
